Whenever I see a government agency with that word Homeland in the name of the agency, I know it's just a matter of time before the homeland starts attacking it's citizens.
I said it in 2002 when they announced creation of DHS. Homeland's a very Nazi/Soviet-style word, redolent of nativist, demagogic, tyranny-prone, blood-and-soil, in other words, fascistic, politics. After DHS is dismantled and abolished, as it should be immediately after America boots Trump and his Republican bare majorities out of our government, there should be no place in US political, governmental or news-reporting vocabularies for "homeland" and any like words.

The US Border Patrol has always been a very rough creature of its southern border focus, with lots of racist, rough justice operations, policies, norms and trigger-happy, although individually often self- disciplined enforcement field officers. To a much lesser extent, ICE has also been shaped by its disagreeable mission. The ugly LE travesty of them both in the Trump era is how they've been expanded with the wrong kind of training, low hiring standards, unprincipled leadership, and how they've been unleashed like the dogs of war against non-white immigrants and citizens alike.
It is not U.S. law that the United States must go to the defense of Taiwan.
The primary law governing this relationship is the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) of 1979. While the TRA creates legal obligations, they are focused on Taiwan's ability to defend itself rather than a mandatory U.S. military intervention.
I regard Miles Taylor as a patriot working to protect American freedom. But he did not "helped design and build the Department of Homeland Security after 9/11"when he was 14 years old. Ridiculous and erroneous claims help the enemies of America, especially Trump and Republicans. Do better.
To be truthful it would at least need to say re-design or change or augment or add to the design. Same with build. And And misleading is as bad as misleading.
It didn’t instantly re-build itself, I imagine going from stand-alone Departments like FEMA to only a tentacle of this “Homeland” security creature looked good on paper, but required a new management design to effectively implement its mission. Protecting it from becoming a political cudgel brandished by a vengeful administration was obviously not designed in, or if it was, those guardrails are ignored.

Step one was = removing safeguards in your communication infrastructure (aka remove fairness doctrine)
Step two: open the door to foreign buyers who flood the zone and repeatedly stretch the bounds of acceptable until we realize the water is boiling and our allies have no ladder left to extend the frogs…

DHS was a Bush 2 creation, 6-8 months after 9/11/01 which happened 10 months after his hired gun James Baker stole the 2000 election for him.
