Good evening. I’m British Chris, and this is Raw America.
A woman who accused Donald Trump of assaulting her says Jeffrey Epstein used Trump’s 1990s beauty pageants as a hunting ground for trafficking victims. Mitch McConnell was reportedly found unconscious before his hospitalization last month, and his office still won’t give any details. Former CIA Director John Brennan is suing the Trump Justice Department, arguing its investigation into him is politically motivated. And Trump’s newly released financial disclosures show his investment accounts went on a massive stock-buying spree right before his tariff pause sent markets soaring.
Before we get to the news, let’s talk about why you’re reading this newsletter, instead of watching a cable network owned by a pro-Trump billionaire. The billionaire takeover of the media is advancing at warp speed, with the right-wing Ellison family poised to do to CNN what they’ve already done to CBS. Jeff Bezos continues to make a mockery out of the Washington Post. Patrick Soon-Shiong turned the LA Times into a propaganda mill. We all know they’re not doing this to support journalism, but to crush it. This is exactly why we launched Raw America: the oligarchs can’t stop independent journalism no matter how hard they try. But we can’t do any of this without your support. Become a paying subscriber right now and join the fight against the billionaires.
Trump Accuser Says Epstein Patrolled Beauty Pageants for ‘Fresh Meat’
A former Miss Switzerland contestant named Beatrice Keul has come forward with a detailed account of what she witnessed at Trump’s 1993 American Dream Pageant. She was 23 at the time, a banking executive and a former pageant runner-up herself. She said this was unlike any other pageant she participated in, calling it a “playground” for Epstein and his friends.
Keul said Epstein and another man working in modeling circled contestants like predators, saying the men “knew exactly what they wanted.” Keul was, in her words, “fresh meat.”
Epstein reportedly promised Keul flights and hotel stays for parties at Mar-a-Lago, saying she had “the caliber for this league.”
To be clear, there’s no concrete evidence Trump knew what Epstein was allegedly doing at his own pageant, and he hasn’t been accused of facilitating any of it. But numerous women have described an atmosphere where powerful men treated beauty contestants like products to be purchased for their own enjoyment.
Trump himself bragged to Howard Stern in 2005 about walking backstage into dressing rooms while pageant contestants were naked, saying he could get away with things like that. Even though he denies wrongdoing, the pattern is hard to miss.
Mitch McConnell Reportedly Found Unconscious Before Being Hospitalized for Mystery Condition
Now to Mitch McConnell, because something doesn’t add up.
Punchbowl is reporting that the former Senate Republican leader lost consciousness at his Washington D.C. home on the morning of June 14th, before an ambulance was dispatched. Audio of the emergency call surfaced on Wednesday. McConnell’s office hasn’t confirmed or denied it.
The Kentucky Republican’s office has been stonewalling for weeks. First they stated McConnell was “receiving excellent care.” Then they said he was “working closely with staff.” This week, he;’s apparently still working with staff, and still recovering. And there’s still no word on his diagnosis or even whether he’s still in the hospital.
This is the 84 year-old’s second hospitalization this year, after spending eight days in the hospital back in February with flu-like symptoms. He also suffered a fall and a concussion in 2023. And there were the two public freezing episodes that same year. He fell again in December 2024. And last October, he fell while on camera, as a reporter was asking a question.
McConnell is refusing to step down before his term ends next January. Senate Majority Leader John Thune insists he’s still sharp and dialed in and capable of serving. Maybe. But his constituents and the American public deserve more than vague statements from staffers when a sitting senator is found unconscious in his own home.
Former CIA Director Sues Trump DOJ Over Ongoing Investigation
Former CIA director John Brennan filed a lawsuit this week asking a federal court to order the DOJ to hold onto records tied to its ongoing investigation into him, before any formal charges have been filed. Brennan’s legal team says those records should prove the case against him is political retribution from Trump.
For months, federal prosecutors in Miami have been building what’s described as the largest and most complicated case the department has pursued against Trump’s political enemies. Their working theory is that Brennan and others engaged in a years-long conspiracy dating back to President Barack Obama’s administration, tied to the 2016 Russia investigation and Jack Smith’s prosecutions of Trump after he left office.
Brennan’s lawyers flagged similar tactics used against former Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, cases where courts have already ruled that the DOJ ignored normal legal processes. Brennan’s lawsuit names Trump himself, along with acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel, as defendants.
His lawyers argued Trump is obsessed with punishing one of his biggest critics using the federal government as a tool to seek revenge. That’s a serious allegation to make in federal court, and it’s notable that Brennan felt he had to go to court himself before charges are even filed.
Trump Went on Stock-Buying Spree Day Before Pausing His Tariffs
This next one is remarkable even by Trump-era standards.
A 927-page financial disclosure released this week shows that Trump’s investment accounts made 327 individual stock purchases worth up to $12.8 million on April 8th of last year. That’s exactly one day before Trump announced a 90-day pause on his tariffs, which sent the S&P 500 up nearly 10 percent in a single day, one of the biggest single-day gains in the index’s history.
The purchases included major stocks like Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Amazon and Alphabet, Google’s parent company. Federal law requires officials to disclose stock trades over a thousand dollars within 45 days. But Trump didn’t file those disclosures for months. And in some cases, it took him more than a year before disclosing.
These aren’t the only suspiciously timed trades, either. The president’s investment accounts also bought Intel stock four days before the government announced a nearly $9 billion equity stake in the company, right after Intel’s CEO met with Trump at the White House. His accounts also repeatedly bought stock in Palantir and private prison company GEO Group, companies benefiting directly from his administration’s immigration and surveillance policies.
The White House argues these are automated index trades Trump has no control over. But government ethics experts aren’t so sure. By the way, the penalty for failing to disclose stock purchases is only as high as $200 per violation. That essentially amounts to a parking ticket for a sitting president making stock trades off of his own policy decisions.
That same financial disclosure form shows Trump personally made over $1.4 billion from cryptocurrency ventures last year, while his administration appointed crypto-friendly regulators and signed stablecoin legislation into law.
