Now, here’s what happened in Houston.
Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was on his way to his construction job on Tuesday morning and picking up co-workers when he was stopped by ICE agents. He’s lived in the U.S. for 35 years and has no criminal record. He has three sons who are all U.S. citizens.
ICE shot and killed him anyway. Their excuse was that he “weaponized his vehicle,” which is the exact same excuse they gave for killing Renee Good in Minneapolis. His son, Ronaldo Salgado, just courageously spoke at a press conference about his father, and the family is rightly demanding a full investigation.
Ronaldo said he immediately recognized his father: not from the figure lying on the ground, but from his voice, calling for help as he bled out on the pavement.
Lorenzo Salgado Araujo came to America in pursuit of the American dream, and spent his days earning an honest living building homes. Now, his wife of more than 40 years no longer has a husband, and his sons no longer have a father. Because Stephen Miller and Markwayne Mullin don’t want people like him in the country.
This is what Trump’s mass deportation agenda looks like in practice. Masked men killing hard-working, law-abiding immigrants just trying to provide for their families, with the full protection of the federal government behind them making sure they don’t face accountability.
This is exactly what billionaire-owned media will soften for you.
The Ellisons control CBS and they’re about to control CNN, with far-right opinion columnist Bari Weiss running both newsrooms. Rupert Murdoch’s family runs Fox, the Wall Street Journal, and just bought a bunch of new digital platforms including Vox Media, New York Magazine and Roku. Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post. This has always been their goal: concentrate ownership of major media outlets under a small handful of people, intimidate independent journalism into silence and dominate the narrative.
Independent media will never be able to compete with MAGA oligarchs’ billions of dollars solely on audience size. We compete by being the one thing they can’t buy.
